Poison Ivy??????????????
calamine lotion. if its really bad and spreading, go to the doctor. he has pills you can take or a steroid injection does the trick. good luck
Reply:calamine lotion works best... there are remedies u can look up on google
Reply:There are plenty of poison ivy soaps and creams to stop the itching and stop the spreading of the oil.
Reply:Best ways: calamine lotion, a little benadryl by mouth. If it is too bad you can go to the doctor and get a shot of Decadron and a Solumedrol dose pack to take by mouth-that will dry it right up. Try not to scratch-those bubbly blisters is how it spreads. That liquid can get on anything and touch another part of your body (or someone else for that matter) and there you go-new patch! Good luck!
Reply:It's a little late for this now, but maybe you can use this advice for your next outing. When you return home/camp take all your clothes off immediately, trying not to let anything touch any more of your skin than it has. Wash the clothes with a good detergent and use the extra rinse. Do not wait to wash with your regular laundry because you can spread it.

Shower as soon as you can, letting the water run over your body for a while first. Soap, rinse, repeat. Launder the towels separately from other linens. Apply Calomine lotion liberally and do your best not to scratch. Every time you break open the skin or blister, you are spreading the toxins. It will take that much longer to heal. If it's an extreme case, then see a doctor for a shot.

Be aware you can get the same reaction from poison oak and poison sumac which probably grow in the same area as the poison ivy you encountered. Whatever you do, do NOT to destroy the patch by burning it--the toxins are released ito the air and can cause even more problems--especially in the eyes.

I was in my 30s before I ever got poison ivy--and I'd grown up in the country and had walked through it in the woods all those years with no reaction. When I did get a nasty case and had to have an injection, the doctor told me that everyone is allergic to poison ivy, but it doesn't necessarily show up the first time you encounter it.

When you go out, you might want to be sure you are wearing a long-sleeved shirt. For added protection, put rubber bands or something equally effective over the cuffs/wrist area to try to tighten the material so the leaves can't "sneak" under the sleeve.
