In a bad enough case, the doctor may prescribe prednisone, but the side effects of that medication are quite severe, so the treatment is limited to cases that are way more severe than what you have. (It's obvious that you are not in the emergency room, which is where you would be with a severe enough case of poison ivy to warrant prednisone.)
