Poison ivy out of control!!!?

I have land that has not been touched in over 20 years and the poison ivy has taken over. (some of it has become the size of trees with leaves as big as dinner plates!) What can I do this winter or over time to gradually halt the growth or at least make it manageable? I live in zone 6.

Poison ivy out of control!!!?
We had this same problem when moving into our new house. The yard had not been attended to and had quite an overgrowth. It took me a few weeks to realize where I was getting my poison ivy rash because the vines were so large I didn't recognize it. The vines of the poison ivy were so big they had to be cut with a saw. However, what really did the trick was Roundup Poison Ivy and Heavy Brush Killer. I soaked the entire vine from top to bottom. It took us 2 or 3 applications to get all of it, but we finally got it. Also, the regular Roundup does not work, it has to be the one for poison ivy and heavy brush.
Reply:hire ppl 2 cut it down and don't water the place until it dies or give the poison ivy poison!
Reply:You may need to call someone in if you don't want to go in and cut it down yourself. If you do it yourself wait until after a few frosts or snow hits, will make it easier to cut . Just remember to wear protective clothing. heavy duty gloves, pants, safety glasses etc...You might have to clear a small area each winter to get it all.
Reply:A Produst put out by Ortheo Called Brush B-Gone however this is the best way in most areas to take care of it.

1) First cut it back either with a Weed Eater line Cutter as close to the ground as possible. Note needs to be recommened in the High 80's to 95 degrees. Then follow Direction on,label for proper useage.

2) Normally this will need to be done at least twice to three times durring the Spring, Summer then one more application, just as Fall time starts.
Reply:buy an Ivy killer at any garden center and start by spraying the roots. do this once really soak the trunks and roots. you can spray the leaves and vines at this time too. then about 2 weeks later spray it down again. wait a few more days then start cutting it down starting at the roots, remove all the debris. Be sure to wear protective covering while doing so even your eyes. And please never burn it, the smoke could irritate you., and from what ive been told could cause you to get poison ivy yourself. even when it is dead you could get poisin ivy from it, so be careful.
Reply:ROUND-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
