Poison Ivy help?

Is poison ivy contageous? and what can you do to stop the itching?

Poison Ivy help?
poison ivy can be contagious if you have the oils on your hands and you touch another part of your body or someone elses - it can be anywhere the oils have not been properly washed.

make sure that you wash your bedding

you can use benedryl to help with the itch and a topical ivy cream - if you have it really bad they may put you on steroids.

also in the future when you know you have touched the plant - wash immediately in cold water and soap like dawn or fells naptha.
Reply:poison ivy can spread if you keep scratching it, I would get some benidryl or calinime lotion and put it on, or
Reply:yes it's very contagious, and calamine lotion will help
Reply:I'm not allergic to poison ivy, but I do have overly sensitive skin, and the doctor once told me that an oatmeal bath would be good for me, and it also would help people with poison ivy stop the itching. Take regular oatmeal in the can, and put about a cup into your hot bath water. They also make a lotion now, thats less messy, Its made by aveeno and is called somthing like oatmeal and menthol soothing lotion, they sell it at walmart, by the bengay and stuff. This works wonders for anyone who wants to sooth their painfully itchy skin.
