How to kill poison ivy growing in a lilac bush??

Last year we had poison ivy growing in and around a lilac bush. We'd like to kill the poison ivy without killing the lilac bush. How can this be accomplished?

How to kill poison ivy growing in a lilac bush??
get some ortho TREE AND BUSH KILLER carefully spray on the leaves of the ivy. one week later, ivy dies wait till it dries and pull out by roots, (may have to wait longer , depending on thickness of ivy). ivy gone, lilac healthy. the deal is the tree killer is absorbed through the leaves of the ivy and kills the roots. i have done this to several of my holly bushes, and some other kind of bush that had regular, not waxy leaves and it worked great. if this fails take 10 gallons of gasoline apply liberly to entire area, lite and take pride in knowing the ivy from hell is gone. then replant with a new lilac.
Reply:You could possibly find where the root is for the poison ivy and spray that with a plant or weed killer as long as it isn't near the roots of the lilac bush. If it is then you might have to call a professional in to take care of it.
Reply:Go to a plant nursery and pick up a bottle of "TECNU Poison Oak-N-Ivy Cleanser." (I swear by this stuff.) Go to Home Depot and buy a hazmat (hazardous materials) suit. It is a relatively cheap, thin white suit that you slip on over your clothes and it will save you all kinds of pain if it prevents you from coming into contact with the poison ivy.

Put the tecnu, a bucket of hot soapy water, a hose, and a roll of paper towel outside. Put on old clothes, and gloves and then the suit. If your hands are exposed, wear gloves that you can throw away when you are done. Make sure your face and eyes are also covered by something protective that you can also throw away. Now, carefully inwind the poison ivy from the Lilac branches. Using extreme care not to touch your face or any part of your skin, carefully and thoroughly remove the roots of the poison ivy. It comes up pretty easy. Place all of the plant and roots in a garbage bag, and then place that garbage bag into another garbage bag. Take great pains to not get any of the Urushiol (poison ivy toxin) on the second bag. Now remove the hazmet suit and put it in another garbage bag. Finally remove the gloves and any other piece of protective clothing that came into contact with the Urushiol. Use the tecnu to wash your hands. Do not use water. Just rub the technu into your hands and any other skin that might have been exposed, then dab the tecnu off your skin with a paper towel. Put the paper towel into the garbage bag with the hazmet suit. Repeat with the tecnu several times. Then wash your hands in the warm soapy water and rinse with the hose.

With any luck, you will have gotten rid of the poison ivy, you will not have damaged the lillac, and you will not have infected any of your skin with the awful rash.
